June 14 Palermo in the morning from a bus window

Three hop-on hop-off bus routes gave us good coverage of the city
One of the best things to do when you are in a new city - for us at least, is to hop on the hop-on hop-off bus/s and that is exactly what we did. In fact we spent most of the day traveling around the three routes (twice in some cases) in and out of rain. My camera ran hot trying to get a  taste of the city - it's a mish-mash of buildings, windows, doors, shutters, streets, people, alleyways and arches, towers and gutters, old and new, grand and impoverished. Many of the pix are slanted because they've been taken out the window as the bus has rushed past. This post shows our morning explorations.

A bird on a lamppost on a spire!

Here and there street markets

Institute of Human Physiology - my kind of place
Another hole in the wall - with a plant
Part of an old city wall perhaps
The wheel shop -  a few are dotted around Palermo

An intriguing doorway

Giuseppe Garibalbi fought for the unification of Italy
Archways, doorways to more and more
A side street
Electric scooters here too!
Important to be prepared with your plastic!
The goose-breast balustrades are curved for the ladies' large skirts

Dusting off your souvenirs
The orange domed Church of San Cataldo is an example of
Arab-Norman architecture. This was built in 1154
The papershop
C16 'Fountain of Shame' features numerous nude statues and reliefs.
Many objected hence the name
A moped
Jewellery shop
A Neoclassical and Art Nouveau-style theatre

My dream car - when I was younger!
Aperol Spritz became my favourite thirst -uencher
And here at Biga we stopped for a delicious fresh-cooked 'pizza' and a cool drink.
